The Fighting Retreat — Malaya, 1941–42

This map traces the 2nd Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders during the desperate fighting withdrawal down the Malayan Peninsula. Under Lt-Col Ian MacAlister Stewart, the battle-hardened “Jungle Beasts” fought a succession of delaying and rearguard actions against the Japanese advance, before crossing the Johore Causeway into Singapore at the end of January 1942.
